Apples!

A week or two ago, I bought this little apple peeler contraption at Target.  I have wanted one for years and it took two trips to the store before I actually broke down and bought it.  I really don't like having a million little gadgets cluttering up my kitchen (our toaster broke and it took me 18 months to replace it!), so I wanted to really be sure that I would use the peeler.  Last night, I took it out of the box to make an apple cake that called for three cups of apples.  In just a few minutes I had a tidy heap of apple peels and three cored and spiral cut apples sitting on my cutting board!  Easy!  I don't know why I waited so long...  especially because we love our fruit desserts in this house!

Here are our favorite apple sweets:

I was given one of these as a gift and I can't for the life of me figure out how to adjust it properly so it peels nicely. =-(

Whoa, Shelley! That's a lot of applesauce! One of my goals is to learn how to can:)

Oh, Melinda! I hope that you can figure it out. Maybe the company that makes it can help you out!

Thank you, Matushka! I think I just need to break down and take it on over to my friend's house. The one who gave it to me. Problem is, it's been over two years since she gave it to me and she will know I haven't put it into use all this time... LOL
Your peeled apples sound delicious. =-)

I keep thinking about getting one - but I usually make my applesauce and butter with the peel on, so I haven't broken down and gotten one yet. I did buy another kitchen gadget recently - funny cause I just wrote a post about it and how I don't like lots of kitchen gadgets :) planning to post it later this week! Enjoy your apples, ours are all wrapped up in the refrigerator or in jars as applesauce. I love boxes of apples this time of year.

Be sure to save those peels and core's... I've been using this recipe for years (minus the rosemary) for our kids. They love it on toast when we have afternoon or before bedtime tea.
