Celebrating...


One year since little Button's baptism!

I served a festive dinner of steak, potatoes, and peas with peach and blueberry crisp and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for dessert! Yum!

We are working on adding more iron to our little one's diet. Any suggestions? I have the idea of a smoothie that incorporates spinach, but your thoughts are most welcome. Remember, he has only six teeth to chew with.

Have you considered old-fashioned pureed liver for iron?

Blueberries are the easiest iron source I know for a little one.

Egg yolks, beans, raisins, and molasses are all good iron sources! I can't remember if Button is on any cow's milk yet, but milk can restrict iron absorption. Vitamin C helps, so limit one and increase the other!

Cooking with cast iron pots/pans brings a bit more iron to the diet. Also, blackstrap molasses has a lot of iron in it. Chickpeas are a surprising source of iron,too. Hope this helps!

OK, there are two pieces to this puzzle. The dark leafy greens are good. In addition, a vitamin C in powder (or even juice) form will aid in the absorption of the iron from the consumed food. Love your blog.

You can make homemade beef broth either from meat or bones. I like to do it in the crockpot on low so it simmers a long time and really gets all the good stuff out. then the broth can be added to almost anything. you can freeze it in batches for use later

When I was low on iron during pregnancy I read that cooking in cast iron adds iron to the food. And when I started eating more oranges and clementines, my iron levels increased. I later found out that Vit C helps with absorption.

Get a good cast iron pan to cook some food for him, eggs, pancakes. Foods pick up iron from the pan.
It increases the percentage of iron in the foods themselves.
