Learning Basket: Apples...

Books
Apple Farmer Annie
Eating Apples
Apples for Everyone
Apples
Our Apple Tree
Applesauce Season

Crafts and Activities
Bake Sour Cream Apple Pie
Make Yarn Apples
Apple Printing (slice an apple in half, dip in paint, and stamp the apple all over a large piece of paper)
Play the Game Hide the Apple (we'll take turns hiding an apple somewhere in a room while the others keep their eyes closed and then try to find it)
Apple Taste Test (We'll try several different varieties of apples to find our favorites!)

***
Note: Since the subject we are working on this week is apples, it would be a great time for apple picking. However, we've planned that with friends for early October. I'd happily take the little ones out to do it twice, the farm is an hour away and I think that it might be too much to do this week (especially with the feast of The Nativity of the Theotokos occurring on Wednesday).

I have just found your blog and it is so helpful! Thanks for the learning basket idea. I am homeschooling a 2nd grade, a preschooler and a toddler is in the mix. This will help in keeping the two younger ones on task.

Blessings,
Shana

At the Latin School, the teacher is beginning with the letter 'A', so we will have a similar theme happening in our home, too :)

While living in the Shenandoah Valley we had several orchards within a few minutes drive. We've moved back to the deep South and I'm hoping to find something resembling an orchard, but no luck yet. When I do, I'm coming back to your Apple Week for my preschoolers! Great ideas here.
