What's the Deal with the Amber Necklaces?

Several people have e-mailed me to ask why our children are wearing amber necklaces and where we got them. All three of our little ones have amber necklaces around their necks almost all of the time. Originally, I bought them to help our children with teething (there are many health benefits!). Not long after they began wearing them, I realized that instead of having them wear their crosses pinned to their shirts, we could put them onto the amber necklace to simplify things. The amber beads are individually knotted and strung on durable string so they are safe and long-lasting. The two older children have worn their necklaces for 18+ months and have had no problem with them. I bought small necklaces for both boys through Nova Natural and Sugar Plum's at a small toy store (with no website). I have also heard great things about Inspired By Finn and hope to purchase one for myself in the future.

That's interesting. Our solution to the "break the necklace" problem was to get the knotted crosses that are one with the cord. We always found them at monasteries. The babies did tend to teeth on them occasionally, but they're pretty indestructable.

I've enjoyed seeing the amber necklaces on your children. Amber is a new favorite of mine, for looks and health benefits. I have an amber nursing necklace for myself and my 6 month old has a teething necklace, both from Inspired by Finn. I definitely recommend the shop-- both transactions have been quick, and there are often sales or discounts offered. I'm hoping to get myself a shorter necklace at some point.

How do you attach the crosses?

Hi Sarah,

I brought the necklace and cross to the jeweler and he attached them. I think that it cost five dollars total for both necklaces.

Would you (when you get a chance, ha!) post a pic of the cross + necklace?

I never thought to combine the 2! Brilliant!

I'm also wanting an amber necklace for myself. I've been eyeing this for a few months: http://www.amberizon.com/jewelry/baltic_amber_and_silver_cross_pendant_1402_16.html

I've never heard about these. They certainly would have been of benefit the past couple of days. Our youngest has his incisors coming in soon and has been so fussy. The amber necklaces look so beautiful with the cross too. Thanks for sharing.
