Pregnancy Update - 31 Weeks...

.:Are you tired of photographs of hydrangeas?:.

Well, we are beginning our fourth week of bedrest. In some ways, the time is dragging, but in others it seems like it is going quickly. I am hoping that we will be able to get to 36 weeks in this pregnancy, which means if all goes well, we are looking at five more weeks on bedrest. Then, of course, we'll have our 40 days after the baby is born (I am kind of dreading that to be honest, though we'll see how I feel once I am recuperating from the birth and caring for a newborn, toddler, and preschooler).

We have been so blessed to have at least one or two visitors each week and I am really thankful that I have been able to go to church, cook a little bit, and to take the children outside. I miss going out to do things and popping out to the store when I want to (though I have to say that our budget has never been happier!), but I have found that the children really don't seem to miss story hour, the library, or the other things that I tried to fit into our routine every week. I think that they do wish that they could go to the beach and playground more, but we've been enjoying our own yard a lot. Personally, I have been really looking forward to Tuesdays because I can take a nice long drive to my doctor appointments... who would have thought that I would ever look forward to that?! Ha!

As far as how the appointment went, this week we had our fourth Progesterone shot. I have two more to go (which will bring me to 33 weeks). I also got my strep test. Other than that, everything is the same old, same old:) Here's to another week under our belts!

Beautiful picture!

It is HARD to be on bedrest!
When I broke my foot two summers ago bedrest lasted 2 months ... June and July... When I was able to get out I remember feeling so relieved and greatful... I was in an apartment on the 4th floor without an elevator so it was not easy. But now I know how hard it can be!

Glad you have a few visitors and can get out to the backyard. I can imagine how Tuesdays would be exciting!

sending love to you in Christ :)

Thanks for the update! Glad the appointment went well yesterday. Very interesting about the kids not missing their normal activities. I honestly don't think mine would either. Whenever I let them know we're off to playgroup or the park, etc., the first reaction from DS1 is, "Let's stay home instead" and we usually only have one event scheduled per week.

Thanks for all your kind comments on my blog concerning all that has been going on. I almost feel as if I wouldn't go on bedrest, so God made me! Thankfully, none of what happened should affect the baby.

It's the same for me, too. Time is dragging, yet going by quickly, too. I can't believe it's June! I still haven't changed the calendars over from May. It just doesn't seem possible.

May your baby stay put and your bedrest be as enjoyable as possible.

Way to make it this far. I just delivered at 35 weeks and it looks like we'll avoid the NICU (except for 5 hours of observation he has the first day). My 5 weeks of bedrest were hard with the last being the worst, but every day makes such a difference.

The last thing I want today is to go home and do our 40 days. I've been cooped up and the delivery was easy- let me at it, you know? Do you have any new ideas for this time after bedrest? People have helped us with so much the last few weeks, I really want to do some things for myself now, like driving our preschooler to school...

I never tire of hydrangeas.

So happy that the little guy is staying put. I know it's hard for you to stay off your feet so much though. Don't worry about the 40 days. Everything will change so much (in a good way) that it won't feel like an extension of bed rest. It's truly a different time. Usually, if I keep my mind fixed on the time that I'm in, it helps things a lot. (And I remember having a hard time doing that this time last year.) In other words, let the day's worry be sufficient for the day.

Love to you!

We were all sick one after another during January this year and we stayed in for a good three weeks or so. I found it so much easier to keep up with my household tasks and to keep to our homeschooling routine, which is light anyway since my students are 4 and 2. :) We have by and large continued the pattern. We go to church at least once a week, we have a church young Moms' group that I attend once a month which also does an activity out somewhere once a month. And we run errands once a week, often with my brother. Sometimes we have friends over, but I enjoy not having my week disrupted by having to get out to activities! Plus, the more time I spend at home, the more I can work on my home, and the less I want to escape it! :)

Of course, bed rest is not the same thing as being able to putter around your home. Praying that it goes quickly for you and that you make it to term!

Glad that you are doing well. We pray for you every day. I pray that you won't have another NICU baby. I think one is enough!

It is wonderful that you have been able to get out a little bit. I think every ounce of sunshine and fresh air helps to make the time go by faster. Thanks for updating us.

I agree, beautiful photo.

One of our Matushkas had a difficult pregnancy and was in and out of the hospital. During her 40 days, she'd actually come to church, sit in the car, and then attend Coffee Hour, since she craved the human interaction.

Continued prayers.

The 40 days sound beautiful in concept but do you have an option to shorten it if you want to/ can?

NO. BRING ON THE HYDRANGEAS. ;-)

The 40 days is for you to be able to bond with your baby *and* to recover your own strength, and with two other little ones in the house, you will need every second of it. That said -- does your parish have a Sisterhood, and if so, could they arrange visits so that you have some adults around the house for a couple of hours a day?

Anonymous -- not a good idea to shorten the 40 days (nor is it a real option). The other members of the family need that time, too, to make room in their hearts and schedules for the latest addition, and Mom needs that time to help them see that just because she has to spend so much time with the new baby, doesn't mean she has forgotten about them. It's a tense time, and the Church provides you the space you really need to recuperate *and* make the emotional adjustments.

I agree. Bring on the hydrangeas. They're my favorite! And they look so beautiful against the white blog background!

Still loving the hydrangeas. Your photos are always so beautiful. I'm so sorry you have been on bed rest for so long, but happy to hear that your little one is healthy. You and your family are in our prayers.

The hydrangeas are LOVELY and I have to admit that every time I see pictures of them I grow wistful for a backyard (we're in an apartment). I told my husband the other day that all I want is a garden with a white picket fence and lots of hydrangeas! So please, keep showing them!! Maybe I should just get one as a potted plant :0)

You and baby are still in the prayers. Good to hear he's still clinging to the womb. I guess every day he does that, the bigger and stronger he gets.

I had also wanted to comment that if you are writing this at 31 weeks, your little guy has an excellent chance of making it. My son was born four weeks early, and apart from bilirubin difficulties (fixed in the hospital) and having no eyelashes, he was fine. He's now a strapping 31-year-old, 6 foot 2 and working on a railroad, so you can breathe a little easier about your forthcoming son on that score.

Oh -- and my son's eyelashes are now drop-dead *gorgeous.* ;-)

Thanks, Meg! Our daughter was born at 35 weeks too. She was very healthy, Thank God! We were also so fortunate with our son. He was born at 32 weeks and though he needed to spend three weeks in the NICU, he was perfectly healthy as well (just small and unable to regulate his body temperature on his own). We have been so blessed with the health of our two older children. I am praying and hoping that we will be as blessed with this little guy.
