One of My Greatest Fears...

Sylvia just posted about Fr Alexios, her priest at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Tampa, Florida. He was attacked because he was mistaken for an "Arab Terrorist." I have to admit that this is my greastest fear with my husband's beard, pony tail and cassock. Lord Have Mercy.

Here's the article: Marine Reservist Attacked Greek Priest He Mistook for Terrorist

I can imagine that would be a scary in the U.S. today. I was in shock when I first read this story. I just can't believe that something like that could happen... Lord have mercy.

Seems like horrible events like the Ft. Hood attack just spur on more and more violence.

I guess it's a good thing your husband (and most priests) wear fairly prominent crosses around their necks... hopefully anyone with good human judgment will be able to differentiate. Obviously the Marine in this case did not have good judgment, period.

Let's hope that some good will come of this, and people will become somewhat informed/ aware of Orthodox clergy and the attire they wear.

Fr. Alexios will be in my prayers today. Thank you to your husband and all of the Orthodox clergy who wear the cassock as a "flag of Orthodoxy."

Religious persecution or persecution of any kind is purpetrated by Satan. He whispers in the ears of the weak and laughs all the way back to his lake of fire and brimstone with his newest victim. At least the priest will be with God. God is not the author of fear anymore than He is the author of hate and persecution. Have faith that God is in charge and even trails are for our good though they may be hard.
