New Bookshelves...

Our anniversary gift to one another was a pair of bookshelves. Hubby spent several hours getting them put together and moving the furniture around in our front room. I finished things off by loading the shelves with books (there are even more!) and reorganizing things a bit. There is still more to do... adding two bookshelves ended up creating more changes downstairs... Tomorrow is another day!

Next on the Agenda: Find or make curtains (Any suggestions? Those skinny windows are throwing me!) and see about a better desk chair... Garage sales, here I come!

I'm pleased to see you organize your books by color. ;-)
My sisters laugh at me for sorting mine that way...but I think it makes the shelves look so much more attractive!

I really like them! It's amazing how a shelf full of books changes the whole dynamic of a room.

Very nice! I was also impressed with the books organized by color. I'm not sure it would be for me (my librarian background makes me want them organized by topic), but maybe my designer self will win out one of these days.

And Happy Anniversary!

I like those bookshelves! Very nice!

I'd suggest valances or Roman shades for the windows...I think the style of a Roman shade in particular would look nice with the rest of the decor. But a simple valance might not be as expensive...I think roman shades can be a bit pricey.

Matushka, do you get Cottage Living? I love this magazine and I have gotten more great ides from this publication.

Anyhow, I think roman shades would look great in this room. Roman shades are a bit pricey. A cheap way to do a faux roman shade is to get one panel and roll it up and place two ribbons (from the fabric store) on either end to hold it up. Does that make sense? Go to cottageliving.com and click on window treatments. Go to the third page and the third section of pictures down (the green room) is the idea I'm talking about. I did this in my bedroom and kitchen and I love it. Plus it was so cheap to do!

Good luck!

P.S. Your house is beautiful! So warm and cozy!

love a valance and lace on bottom...rented a canal boat in France a few years ago and every small village we walked through had the most beautiful, sparkling, lace in the windows of the homes. Each were different and so lovely. I have been obsessed with lace curtains ever since. yes I AM Irish...why do you ask?
