Furniture Shift in the Nursery...

We recently bought a convertible crib from a friend very cheaply and have begun to think about how we'd like the nursery to look. As of now, this room will be our daughter's room and she will sleep in the toddler bed version of the crib (it can also be a double bed!). The room obviously has a long way to go, but I finally got the furniture to fit a bit better. Despite liking the whole side of the room with the crib on it and the bookshelf in the alcove, I cannot stand how the wall with the futon looks. Any suggestions?

You just need some color on the wall to break up the white. Ideas: A throw across the whole back of the futon. Some prints/frames artwork on the wall. Something hanging from the corner - a hanging plant, a toy net, a kite. A border (stencilled, lettered, or an actual wallpaper-type)around the top of the wall could also do the trick.

I see what you meant about the alcove. The like the bookshelf there, though. I agree with Alicia about breaking up the white on the futon wall. We have a throw over the back of our futon the way she describes and it makes a big difference. Also, why not hang some of the children's baby pictures? Our DS has a 12-month frame in his room, with pictures from his first year. He loves to look at it! Or pictures from their baptisms, etc.

You could also hang a net from the ceiling and put stuffed animals in it. It's a great way to keep the mess of them off the floor and make a white room look colorful. I like the idea of the throw on the futon, and I think maybe that red pillow should go in the middle of the two white ones to give it a little balance if you don't use the throw idea. Baby pictures is also a good idea. Maybe a collage type thing, or even a small timeline from Ella's birth to Alexander and Ella now...Keeping track of what they looked like, sorta like what Aunt Susan and Uncle Sean do with their Christmas pictures, you know?

It looks so spacious, but I see how the expanse of white might be a little bland. What about piles of colourful, mismatching cushions on the futon? My little boy loves to use cushions to make "nests", and it is safer and more relaxed when I read to the children in a nest rather than on a sofa with Baby wobbling about all over the place.

Something we did to take up wall space in our Boy's room was to buy canvases (ours were from a 99p shop) and use cheap acrylic paints to make hand print art. It looks nice - we added a Bible verse about clapping hands. You could do a foot print one too...
