Caring for Others...

I was greatly impressed and inspired when I read Monica's recent post about taking food to a friend suffering with morning sickness. Though I have always wanted to do something like that for someone I know (and even have fond memories of having it done for my family when I was a child), I never have. I changed that today by bringing a basket of food to an older, single woman in our church who is going through chemotherapy. We included: Chicken Tetrazzini, Manhattan Clam Chowder, yogurt covered raisins, applesauce, chocolate chip cookies, mini apple pastries, an apple, peppermint patties, and The Magic of Ordinary Days in book and dvd.

Try to do this for someone that you know is suffering... it is hard to care for those outside of your family, but caring for others is an incredibly important thing for feminine women to master!

Thank you for giving me the push I needed, Monica!

I love putting together food baskets like this! Next week I'm going to visit a friend who just had her eighth child. We're taking her a new crockpot and all the ingredients for several meals. I'll have to think of a relaxing treat to add for the new mother!

Yes, I love doing that too! I also think it is nice when you include something like a book or DVD like you did.

I also had a question for you, Emma. Since you seem to know a lot about clothes and wardrobes and things, I was wondering if you had a list or an idea of what is needed in a SAHM basic wardrobe. My mother is losing weight and soon she won't be able to wear the clothes she has so she will have to buy new clothes but she likes the idea of having all the basic staples. So can you help me??

This posts hits close to home as I wish I were back home close to my mom who is going through chemo so i could be doing this for her. Unfortunately, so few care enough to do this for others when it would mean so much to them. Good for you in thinking of it!

God bless,
Nanny Y.

What a lovely idea! I'm beginning my (all day) morning sickness and fatigue (yeah, my pregnancy is going well, then!) and I know any help at all is greatly appreciated by us preggos!
