February 18...

It's time for another Commitment to Loveliness! This is a fun way to increase femininity and beauty in our lives each week without even trying! All you have to do is choose five things that you would like to work on or do during the week that will increase the loveliness in your life!

Here is my list for this week:

1. Clean the downstairs rooms of the house... I was able to really deep clean the upstairs rooms of our house last week, but didn't get to the downstairs rooms.

2. Write a few letters to some friends and family members

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! My skin is so dry! The way things are looking, this one won't be off my list until the spring!

4.Clean my wedding band and engagement ring

5. Come up with at least ten lunch ideas and at least twenty dinner menus- that are delicious and healthy- for Lent this year. Since I don't keep the fast as strictly as my husband, I've been getting lax in this area. I am hoping that having lists will help!

Once you have chosen five simple things, post them on your blog and link to this post in your post, and then post the direct link to your Commitment to Loveliness post below. If you do not have a blog, but have a commitment to share, please post them in the comments section.

I look forward to reading how others are celebrating their Commitment to Loveliness!

Well... last week wasn't terribly successful because of an unusual number of social events.

1. Get a Valentine card and birthday present for my husband.

Yes. And we got to spend lots of extra time together because our university was closed for a day and a half due to the ice storm but we live near the metro so we still managed to go out for dinner and shopping!

2. Write 3 wedding thank-you notes (on beautiful stationery with a fountain pen!). I'm way behind on this.

No. None.

3. Keep the bed made and clothes picked up.

Yes, mostly, and even this small step was very pleasant and inspiring.

4. Exercise 3 times.

Only once.

5. Groom eyebrows and give myself a manicure.

Eyebrows yes, manicure no.

And for this week...

1. Extend the new tidy habit to the kitchen, i.e. keep the dishes washed. We don't have a dishwasher so it's easy to let coffee cups and things pile up.

2. Write 2 thank you notes.

3. Exercise twice.

(I'm reducing the attempted frequency this week because of a big school project and getting ready for a trip with the inlaws next week.)

4. Have tea with a tray and a pretty cup in the evening.

5. (Stealing from you, Emma...) Come up with a week of menus for Lent. It's our first Orthodox Lent so I need to give it some extra thought.

Sorry for getting chattery but I don't have blog space to discuss it!

Emma,
What a lovely blog you have! I pop in occasionally to see what you have written. How admirable to see such a committment to transforming your life from ordinary to extrodinary! May God bless your efforts to please your husband and raise your child in a Godly home! Thank you so much for adding my shop to your blog. I appreciate the visitors that have come my way because of your mention!

Hi Dana!

You did a great job last week! I love the things that you picked for this week, especially your idea for extending a tidy habit into the kitchen! BTW, I didn't know that you were Orthodox! Are you a recent convert? It's a small world!

We are serious inquirers and would like to become catechumens soon...Orthodoxy has crossed our minds periodically over the last few years, but we started looking into it seriously about 6 months ago. In January we started attending Holy Cross Antiochian Orthodox, where Fr. Gregory Mathewes-Green is the priest. I like him very much, and the theological teaching and spirituality resonate very positively with me, but the culture still feels very foreign. Did you grow up Orthodox?

Hello Dana!

It's great that you are considering Orthodoxy! I've never me Fr. Gregory, but I have enjoyed his wife's books and articles a lot! It must be neat speaking with them!

The cultures in Orthodoxy can be very foreign. We belong to the Orthodox Church in America (OCA which is probably the least "ethnic" though there are quite a few people are Russian descent. The Antiochian Orthodox church has some of the most beautiful hymnnology! I especially enjoy Byzantine chant during Holy Week and Pascha!

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them (or ask my hubby to)! Just let me know:)

Emma
